I’m a true believer in the old saying, “breakfast is the most important meal of the day”. This is the meal that wakes your metabolism up from its slumber and sets the tone for your day nutritionally. In others words, eat glitter for breakfast and sparkle all day!
Making the right choices first thing in the morning will help ensure your day is full of a balanced diet of whole foods that fuel your body. The food we eat impacts our mood and our mood impacts the food choices we make. A healthy, filling breakfast can help brighten our mood for the day and put a smile on your face.
If you wait until mid-morning or even lunch, your body will be so hungry by then you will start craving food and make unhealthy choices. Skipping breakfast means that you are starving your muscles which can stall or stop your weight loss goals. We need to feed our muscles so choose foods that are high in protein for your first meal of the day. A high protein and high fibre breakkie can feed your appetite for longer and give your body the building blocks for muscle growth and recovery.
Eating often gives you an even spread of the nutrients vitamins and calories throughout the day to keep you alert and active. Your body and mind needs these nutrients to function correctly, so you may find that if you skip breakfast your brain just can’t keep up and you feel lethargic, slow and groggy.
Studies have shown that kids who don’t eat breakfast have reduced cognitive ability at school and adults are no different. A lot of us tend to turn to coffee or caffeinated hot drinks to keep us alert, but a wholesome breakfast is must more beneficial to our minds that that caffeine pick me up.
Mornings can be a hectic time of the day trying to get everyone in the house up and out the door. Breakfast can often lose out to other jobs. To start the day off well, it is essential to plan meals or have some quick options on stand-by for those mornings that just don’t go your way!
It’s the weekend… have a treat! We all like to indulge every once in, and that’s ok! Eating should never be boring or a chore. On days off with friends and family, it’s nice to try something different than the daily breakfast choices that fit into our busy schedules. For a breakfast treat you could try these yummy Banana Waffles from “If It Fits Your Macros” [https://www.iifym.com/macro-friendly-recipes/chocolate-banana-waffles/]
We all want to sparkle, and breakfast is our glitter.
“One should not attend even the end of the world without a good breakfast.”
