Our first wellness lunch on Friday 15th January 2021 was a great success!
This event was designed to help people identify in themselves and those around them when a low mood is something more. Every day in our lives right now we are being asked to hold firm, not live our lives the way we would like or are used to.
As the new year set in, all the usual chat about resolutions was bombarding everyone’s website feeds, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter etc. We are living in uncertain times, and for a lot of people planning for the future, setting goals or achievements just seem out of their reach at the moment and it is having an effect on their mental health.
I wanted to help people identify in themselves when they are not feeling right and when it becomes something that they need to address. In the lunch chat, Dr Mairead Smyth runs through the basic needs that all humans have, she gave us some resources to help guide us back to a place where we feel strong enough in ourselves to move forward with our lives, even in the uncertainty that surrounds us. Mental health and wellness is such a broad topic and means so many things to so many people.
I think in a 1-hour casual chat we could only tip the surface, nevermind scratch it, but it was a very worthwhile exercise to do. I know people who participated took 1 or 2 nuggets of information from the hour and have started to examine those within the context of their own life and situation and wellness.
Feeling well within yourself can be very challenging. Even those with the sunniest dispositions or the people who appear to have it all together and under control can find it a challenge to feel good, particularly now. So, even if you have 1 takeaway from our wellness lunch, then that’s a positive step in the right direction.
