A Decade of Strength: How Karen Stayed Strong, with Plantar Fasciitis & a Coccyx Injury
Because your 40s and 50s aren’t the time to slow down — they’re the time to move smarter.
Meet Karen.
She first joined Finesse at 40, hoping to feel fitter and stronger.
Ten years later, she says she feels better now — at 50.
Over the years, Karen faced her fair share of challenges: a painful coccyx injury, a case of plantar fasciitis, and the natural changes that come with getting older.
But through it all, she kept moving.
With guidance from our physiotherapy team and her instructors, Karen learned how to adjust her practice safely — staying active, maintaining her strength, and avoiding setbacks.
Every class helped her rebuild, refocus, and remember what her body was capable of.
“At 50, I feel better than I did at 40 — and I put it down to Pilates!”

Finding Strength, Even in the Hardest Times – Mary’s Story
Meet Mary.
Mary first discovered Pilates after her husband suggested she try it.
What began as a simple recommendation quickly became a lifeline — a space to reconnect with her body, find calm, and rebuild strength from the inside out.
When Mary was diagnosed with breast cancer, she didn’t stop coming to class.
Through treatment and recovery, Pilates became her steady companion — helping her stay mobile, keep her spirits lifted, and remind her of what her body could still do.

The hidden health benefits of Pilates
Pilates is more than just stretching on a reformer — it’s a form of exercise with powerful, often hidden, health benefits.
- Bone Health: Pilates uses safe, weight-bearing movements that strengthen muscles and support bones, helping to reduce the risk of osteoporosis and fractures.
- Heart Health: Gentle but consistent movement boosts circulation, lowers blood pressure and supports long-term cardiovascular health.
- Menopause Support: Controlled breathing, strength work and mobility exercises ease stiffness, lift energy and help manage mood changes.
- Joint Health: By strengthening the muscles around hips, knees, and shoulders, Pilates supports joints, improves posture and reduces everyday aches and pains.
- Mental Health: Pilates doesn’t just strengthen the body — it also supports mental wellbeing. Focused breathing and mindful movement calm racing thoughts and bring a sense of balance.
For many women over 50, these benefits mean greater confidence, independence, and resilience for the years ahead.
- Reduce backpain
- Improve posture
- Increase flexibility
- Increase mobility
- Improve self-confidence
- Create lean, toned muscles
- Improve energy
- Better sleep
Injury, Recovery & Prevention
No matter how careful we are, life can throw us challenges — from a simple fall to surgery or illness. While we can’t prevent every setback, keeping your body strong, mobile, and balanced makes a huge difference. That’s where Pilates comes in.
Pilates builds core strength, stability, and flexibility — three key factors in reducing the risk of falls and injuries. But it doesn’t stop there. Because Pilates is adaptable, you don’t have to give it up when injuries or health issues arise. With the right guidance, movements can be modified to keep you active through flare-ups, joint replacements, or recovery after surgery
At Finesse, our physiotherapists and instructors often work together to help clients bridge the gap between rehab and everyday movement. Many of our clients say Pilates was the one thing they could continue before, during, and after their recovery.
