Deep tissue massage is a form of massage therapy that focuses on the realignment of the deeper muscles in the body. Deep tissue massage is used to bring relief to painful, stiff and tired muscles. It helps to restore and keep muscles in peak condition. It is also effective as a means to relieve stress and strain.
Deep tissue massage uses many of the same strokes as classic massage but the strokes are slower, deeper and are applied with more pressure. Often when there is chronic muscle pain or injury, there are adhesions. During a deep tissue massage the therapist manually breaks down these adhesions to relieve pain and restore health and movement. Usually at some points in the massage the patient will feel some discomfort or pain. It is important to tell your therapist if you experience pain that is outside of your comfort range.
